A son of the desert who followed the wind to the sea

I was born in Zagora, where the Sahara begins. I grew up with endless dunes, palm groves along the Draa valley, mint tea poured from high, and skies so full of stars you could read by them. In the desert, you learn to watch the light — how it turns the sand gold at sunrise and red at sunset.

But I always dreamed of the ocean. So I followed the road west, across the mountains and the argan forests, all the way to Essaouira — the city where the wind never sleeps. The first time I saw the Atlantic crash against the old ramparts, I knew I had found my second home.

I picked up a camera to keep that feeling. I shot the kitesurfers flying over the bay, the riders galloping along the beach at golden hour, the blue boats in the port. Travellers started asking me to photograph them too — and to show them the places I'd discovered.
